Prosthetic Dentistry
Dental prosthetics, such as dentures, crowns, bridges, implants and others, are crafted by technicians and are used to replace or restore partial or full teeth.
Prosthetic dentistry is divided into two types:
- Removable prosthetics: dental prosthetics that can be removed for cleaning and are reinserted by the patient, such as dentures
- Fixed prosthetics: partial or total dental prosthetics that restore teeth to their original form, shape and function, are bonded (cemented) to one or more remaining dental elements, such as crowns or bridges
Both types of prosthetics are customized for each patient. The difference between the two types revolves around the type of design, construction times, and materials used, all of which will impact the end result for the patient, including comfort, aesthetic appeal and the total cost of the therapy.
